Texas Health Fort Worth among hospitals offering highest-quality care

FORT WORTH, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth’s emergency general surgery program is one of eight nationwide and only two in Texas recognized by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Emergency General Surgery Verification Program (EGS-VP).

Emergency general surgery is one of the most frequent types of surgery handled by a hospital. The verification is meant to certify that hospitals and their medical staffs provide high-quality, around-the-clock care to immediately identify and manage common conditions requiring emergency surgery, such as appendicitis and gallbladder disease.

“No matter the time of day, when a patient needing emergency general surgery arrives at Texas Health Fort Worth, they are treated by surgeons and specialists of the hospital’s medical staff committed to providing compassionate, exceptional care,” said Jared Shelton, FACHE, hospital president. “Our Mission is to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve. It is our focus as we provide North Texans with safe, high-quality care from diagnosis to treatment.”

EGS-VP is based on other nationally recognized ACS quality improvement programs and was developed with the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST). The programs have measurably improved surgical quality and have prevented complications, reduced costs and saved lives.

“We are pleased to be recognized nationwide as leaders in providing emergency general surgery,” said Mandy Morrison, B.S.N., R.N., CCRN, emergency general surgery program manager at Texas Health Fort Worth. “Meeting our patients’ critical needs is part of our Mission of working to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve.”

Texas Health Fort Worth, a designated Level I Trauma Center, serves a growing number of patients from North Texas and beyond. The hospital draws patients from Fort Worth and surrounding cities.
