Nationally recognized for a commitment to cancer research, from 2011-2012, Texas Health Dallas was one of only 20 hospitals nationwide selected to participate in The Cancer Genome Atlas, sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. This project, which aims to create the most detailed information to date of the genes that control cancer cells, is a successor to the Human Genome Project that produced the first complete sequence of human DNA.

Publications in national and international journals disseminate advancements in research and clinical treatments to scientists and health care providers worldwide. The medical staff at Texas Health Dallas have been involved in a number of investigational studies resulting in multiple publications, abstracts and national presentations.

Oncology Data

The Cancer Registry collects and manages data on cancer patients diagnosed and/or treated at Texas Health. Through the Cancer Registry's database, physicians and staff are able to track the progress of patients and collect long-term statistics. Plus, information from the database is submitted to the Texas Cancer Registry and the National Cancer Database.

At Texas Health, the software used for the Cancer Registry provides the opportunity to compare cancer data and implement best practices in diagnosing and caring for cancer patients.
