“Cerebrovascular” is made up of two words that reference important functions performed by our bodies: “Cerebro” refers to the large part of the brain, while “vascular” refers to the system of arteries and veins that carry blood throughout the body. Together, cerebrovascular refers to blood flow in the brain. For those with cerebrovascular or neurovascular disease, blood flow is temporarily or permanently affected. This includes stroke, aneurysm, carotid stenosis, vertebral stenosis and intracranial stenosis, aneurysms, and vascular malformations.
Cerebrovascular Conditions
When someone experiences restricted blood flow to the brain, conditions that may occur include:
- Stenosis, occurring from the narrowing of blood vessels;
- Thrombosis, or clot formation;
- Embolism, or blockage;
- Hemorrhage, or blood vessel rupture; or
- Ischemia, lack of sufficient blood flow that affects brain tissue and may cause a stroke.

Cerebrovascular disorders treated include:
- Aneurysms in the brain
- Intracranial atherosclerotic disease
- Carotid Stenosis
- Arteriovenous Malformations of the head and neck (AVMs)
- Arteriovenous fistulas
- Arterial dissection
- Cerebral Sinovenous Thrombosis
- Cavernous malformations and fistulas
Diagnostic and treatment services include:
- 3T MRI capabilities with perfusion imaging
- CT angiography and perfusion imaging
- Biplane interventional radiology suites
- Advanced minimally invasive treatment options, including:
- Endovascular coiling and embolization of aneurysms
- Endovascular embolization treatment of AVMs using advanced technologies
BrainPath® technology allows for minimally invasive surgery to treat conditions of the brain, including intracranial hemorrhage treatment. Using this technology allows surgeons to reach abnormalities in the brain without cutting through the brain’s white matter, which is tissue responsible for several cognitive and functional responses.
