The medical community is honoring Dr. A. Compton Broders for his more than 40 years of service in emergency medicine in North Texas. As part of this initiative, Texas Health has established the A. Compton Broders, M.D., Excellence in Medical Education Fund.

Donations will provide support for continuing education and development opportunities to enhance skills and clinical performance across the continuum of care for employees, physicians, residents or fellows at Texas Health Resources. 

Dr. Broders has meant a great deal to our organization and many of us individually over the years and education has always been very important to him. Among his countless achievements, Dr. Broders was cofounder and COO at Emergency Medicine Consultants and a clinical professor of emergency medicine for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where he was instrumental in helping to develop the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Broders also served in a variety of leadership roles at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, Allen, and Kaufman.

ABOUT DR. BRODERS

Dr. A. Compton Broders III is a retired emergency medicine physician in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas where he practiced for 40 years.

Dr. Broders graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1970 and from medical school at Duke University in 1974. He completed his residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas in 1977. He later earned a master’s degree in medical management from Tulane University in 1998. In addition, Dr. Broders is a lifetime Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a Fellow in the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Broders was cofounder and Chief Operating Officer at Emergency Medicine Consultants, Ltd. from 1997 to 2018. He was also a Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where he was instrumental in helping develop the Emergency Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Broders served in a variety of leadership roles at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, Allen, and Kaufman as well as Parkland. He has served on many committees including Project Director for the Dallas Chapter of the American Heart Association, past President of the Texas Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Chairman of the Texas Medical Association’s EMS and Trauma Committee, Member of the Medical Advisory Committee for Parkland, Chairman of the Physician Leadership Council for Texas Health Resources, and a Member of the Parkland Physician Society Leadership Council.

He currently serves on the Texas Medical Liability Trust (TMLT) Claims Review Committee and Board of Trustees, Board of Directors for the Parkland Foundation, the Parkland Fund Development Committee, the Texas Health Dallas Advisory Council, and Board of Trustees for the Methodist Health System Foundation.  He has been awarded the Positive Medicine Project Award, the Spirit of Dallas Award, the James E. Hayes Award, the John A. Rupke Legacy Award, and voted one of the 50 Most Positive Doctors in America.

Dr. Broders met his wife, Maureen Murry, M.D., J.D., in the Emergency Department at Parkland. They have been married for over 40 years. Outside of work, Dr. Broders enjoys golfing, traveling, reading, good food, and spending time with his wife and their lovable little dog Freddy.
