Traditional food pantries generally offer nonperishable, processed foods. The Good For You Healthy Hub program is focused on supplementing those efforts with culturally relevant fruits and vegetables for the community each pantry serves, with at least 70% of its content dedicated to fresh produce.
Each location serves from 50 to 70 families each time one opens its doors. Larger pantries may serve up to 1,200 families per month. Recipients can peruse the shelves and select their groceries, just as they might in a traditional market. The pantries also provide recipe cards, cooking utensils, nutrition education workshops, and other resources to help families make the most of the produce they receive. In some locations, produce is supplemented by dry and canned goods, toiletries, diapers, clothing and additional produce from our Culled Produce Recovery Program.
